By adjusting the ratio of soft and hard segments, the hardness of polyether ester elastomers can reach Shore D (32-82), with elasticity and strength between rubber and plastic. Compared to other thermoplastic elastomers (TPE), polyether ester elastomers have a higher modulus under low strain conditions than other TPEs of similar hardness. When modulus is an important design condition, using polyether ester elastomers can reduce the cross-sectional area of the product and decrease material usage.
Polyether ester elastomers have extremely high tensile strength. Compared to polyurethane (TPU), polyether ester elastomers have much higher compressive and tensile moduli. If the same part is made from polyether ester elastomer and TPU of the same hardness, the former can withstand greater loads. Above room temperature, polyether ester elastomers have a high bending modulus, but they are not as hard as TPU at low temperatures, making them suitable for making cantilever beams or torque-type parts, especially for high-temperature components. Polyether ester elastomers exhibit good low-temperature flexibility, with low-temperature notch impact strength superior to other TPEs, and wear resistance comparable to TPU. Under low strain conditions, polyether ester elastomers demonstrate excellent fatigue resistance and low hysteresis loss. This characteristic, combined with high elasticity, makes this material ideal for various cyclic load conditions, suitable for gears, rubber rollers, elastic couplings, and belts.
